Other Maps
I plan to upload information from other records and sources from the 17th and 18th Century. These will include Deeds, 1656-1658 Down Survey, The Civil Survey and other records.
1656-1658 Down Survey Mill records
Using the website and information provided by http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/index.html (fantastic resource) I have picked out the locations of 448 mills around Ireland. Of course this is not an accurate depiction of the state of mills in Ireland as some records are missing (Counties Galway and Mayo) and others do not go into detail regarding Baronies and Parishes'. The vast majority of these sites are accurate to the townland. Some townlands were not found or have been changed which added some difficulty to locating the sites. I have kept the barony and parish names as they were found on the Down Survey website to make it easier to locate using that resource. A breakdown of the types of mills:
Type not specified (Mill) - 308
Windmill - 42
Corn Mill - 41
Townland names (Milltown etc) - 30
Tuck Mill - 18
Iron Mill/Works - 6
Tide Mill - 2
Mill Pool/Pond - 1
I will now go through the reports from the Civil Survey and try to identify more from these records.
